The Starter Kit is essential for using the Mark 2 Magnetic Filter system. It includes a weather-sealed magnetic adapter ring, and a magnetic lens cap. It is available in two versions: with built-in X4 UV glass for added lens protection, or without glass.
Mark II Adapter Rings
We designed the Magnetic Adapter Ring with X4 UV glass to replace the UV filter and to reduce the risk of vignetting.
There is no downside to having a Magnetic Adapter Ring with UV glass on your lens at all times:
• It completes the manufacturer's weather sealing and protects your lens from dust and scratches.
• Engineered to eliminate vignetting on ultra-wide lenses, delivering edge-to-edge clarity down to 14mm on full-frame cameras and wide even with pro zooms like the Canon 14-35mm and Nikon 14-30mm. When stacking two filters, no vignetting down to 17mm.
Exception: Sony 16-35 2.8, Sony 16-55, and Canon 24-105.
• A Magnetic Adapter Ring with UV glass will not cause more vignetting than a Magnetic Adapter Ring without UV glass.
Some customers may assume that adding more pieces of glass automatically causes vignetting.
In reality, vignetting is primarily caused by the additional spacing created by filter frames between the lens and the outermost piece of glass. The glass itself is not the issue.
